The cooperation of many devices in an intelligent building is needed to create a better, more comfortable life. For instance, the movement sensors are working togehter with the lighting, the lighting with the blinds, the blinds with the alarm, and the alarm with the video entry phone. The aim of the cooperation is to have savings, and to ensure security and comfort of the residents.
The main units do all decisions in the system, and are responsible for the alarm system, lighting, blinds, heating, air conditioning, multi-room and video entry phone. Also, they control the information flow of the programmable switches and mobile applications. Having access to the Internet and the GSM system, the user can be informed about current issues via text message or the NexoVision application.
In case of a failure of the main unit, the individual devices will work autonomously. The lighting, blinds and relay modules are basically working without the help of the main unit. There is the possibility to control lighting, blinds and heating by the help of traditional switches.
In the first place, we need to adjust the operation panel to our needs. You can do this by adding auxiliaries to the system. In this case, the auxiliaries are our Nexo expansion cards.
If the main unit is equipped with a videophone controller card, it is possible to use the video entry phone. At the moment the alarm gets activated, the unit is checking whether someone is home, and will forward all guests ringing on the gate to the owner’s phone. When your neighbour is ringing, and you are on holidays, Nexo will turn on the lighting in the veranda and in the garden, and forward the conversation on the phone. If the main unit is detecting your phone, it automatically opens the gate, garage and raises the blinds.
There is the possibility to send the information of the devices, like lighting or temperature, on your phone or tablet, no matter where you currently are. More over, you have the control over everything happening on your property. Also, you can hand in commands, for instance, ‘I will be home earlier, at about five pm’. Knowing this, the main unit will turn on the heating, and raise the blinds in time.
The most important ideas of smart home systems are the large automation possibilities as well as the optimisation of the most important home devices. Although the majority of functions is carried out automatically, without interference of the user, the manual control turns out to be equally important at certain moments. The prepared activation on relevant scenario occasions or the disabling of certain electric circuits are only examples of the daily user interference. Being aware of these needs encouraged us to design and implement an entire line of intelligent and programmable manipulators, which, thanks to aesthetic assets and multiple functions, were quickly appreciated by our customers.
Instead of long lists describing each function of a switch, we offer sanded glass panes with six touch fields and twenty functions. The icons of the touch fields are representing their functions, on each touch field three functions can be programmed. Each icon can be chosen by the user, and will be engraved by a laser. Thanks to this the customer can easily illustrate self-created functions, scenes, or automations. Another advantage is the multi-coloured background lighting of the touch fields, enabling to signal the state of a function.
If you want to turn on the main lighting in the living room, just touch the manipulator in there with your hand pane. After a short moment, the icon, symbolizing this lighting, will turn red. If the light is too bright, hold your finger on the icon to dim it. The display installed underneath the glass provides all necessary information, like room temperature, state of the alarm system and additional functions. Using the + and – icon is convenient for changing the ventilation power, room temperature or the angle of the blinds slats.
The Nexwell switches are cooperating with the other components of the automation system. Entering the room, the system can automatically turn on the lighting, on a level matched to the time of the day, and start the air recuperation. The manipulator on the wall will symbolise this by changing the colour and a short sound. If there is no movement in the room for fifteen minutes, the light will be turned off again. The switch can also display this action. Nexwell’s automation may also manage audio-video devices. After holding the “+” icon long, the TV will be turned on broadcasting your favourite channel, while using the manipulator equally enables controlling the volume or changing the channels. Thanks to this, you do not need to look for the remote control in the middle of the night. The deactivation of the automation is also really simple. Just hold your finger onto the certain button, and from that time on all functions will be started manually from the manipulators.
Classic switches are an important part of any smart home. In some rooms, where you for example only turn the lights on and off, the amount of functions is limited, so there is no need to install intelligent switches.
Every switch can be integrated into the system. As a result any configuration is possible. Clicking means turning on the light, pressing and holding it will dim it.
Smart Home is all about simple and mobile access to any function. Also, it means to have the fast possibility to see information about temperature, lighting, presence of residents or guests. A mobile application is the basis of a nowadays smart home.
The Nexo system offers the application NexoVision for mobile devices with the operation systems Android and iOS. Both apps are graphically and functionally coherent. Their menu is divided into two parts: places and categories. This partitioning allows for instance closing all blinds in the house with one finger, or going to the living room, and close only those which are in this room. The optimised interface also allows you to increase or reduce the number of icons on the desktop, that matters for elderly or short-sighted people. NexoVision enables to establish an encrypted connection, through which you can safely exchange information with your home. The encrypted connection is based on RSA (raw) 256 bit, RC4 240 bit, MD5 hash. An additional possibility is controlling IP cameras, enabling the remote view from outside the building or from selected rooms of a house.
To simplify the menu navigation, the user may slide with his fingers to the left and right through the menu. This allows you to move freely between the rooms. In every room the app will show the available functions or switches.
The lighting can also be a part of the automation. Lights can be turned on automatically if the motion sensors realise movements in a room, the lights will be turned off again after a few minutes when the person left the room. The decision process can be enriched by checking additional conditions, for instance if it is bright or dark outside. If we have for example a gloomy day outside, the lights will only be lit up to 30 %. The closer we get to the evening, the light level will grow step by step to 100 % after sunset. In the same time, the lighting controllers are working together with the alarm system. If the night alarm is active, the lighting of supervised parts is turned off. In case that you are going to work, all lights are off except the one on the facade.
The lighting automation can work together with manipulators in that way that after entering a room the light will automatically turn on, and also the corresponding icon on the switch will blink. If you are clicking onto the icon, it will change from automatic to manual mode. If there is a fire or intrusion alarm, all lights will automatically turn on to inform the residents, and to frighten potential intruders.
The connection of the alarm system with the automation system enables the notification as well as taking appropriate actions in certain alarm cases. In case of alarm, the most impotant things are to inform the security service, and to launch optical and audible signalisation. It is of course also important to inform the house owner via text message, and to start flashing lights in all areas of the property.
Different partition alarm types require different action scenarios launching their activation. For instance, if there is some flooding in a 24-hour-partition, there is no need of intervention of third parties, only the notification of the owner and the cut-off of the water valve is required. The fire alarm is therefore more restrictive, in addition, to the typical alarm actions, the blinds will be raised, which enables faster evacuation.
The basis for every alarm system is a back-up power supply in case of accidental or intentional power cut-off. In both cases, Nexo will change to the battery power. Power failure, its resumption or the short time of discharging the battery are the basis for sending a text message.

Thanks to NexoVision you can enjoy your favourite radio station while preparing the grill on the terrace. When your friends arrived, you may not only serve them tasty food, but also good music.
The radio functions are available from a variety of manipulators in the Nexo system. There is no need to mount further drivers, knobs or buttons. In addition, all audio features are included into the automation system, allowing to turn on your favourite music when you are coming back from work. The system will let the music follow you, when it detects the opening of doors or the presence in rooms. At any time, these functions can be deactivated using a manipulator.
Connecting the IP video entry phone to the automation system will come along with lots of new possibilities, starting with using the lighting to lead your guests to the entrance door. The device integrates itself to any other device in the system: programmable switches, alarm, lighting, movement sensors, etc.
You can start the guest function on your mobile app, and thereby set the video entry phone in stand-by mode. If someone is ringing at the gate at the appointed time, the video entry phone will automatically turn on the lighting and open the gate, so that your friends can park on the driveway.
You are in the attic with your child, and the postman is ringing. The system recognises movement in the children’s room, and transmits the bell to the next programmable switch. By clicking the icon (or entering a combination) the gate will open for the unexpected guest.
When you are going to work and arm the alarm system, the video entry phone will stay in stand-by mode. In case that the courier will ring, the device will redirect the call from the gate to your phone. With the application or the GSM card, you can open the gate and garage for the courier, to leave the package there.
